A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in Zimbabwe after a court convicted him of raping his 56-year-old mother-in-law during a violent home invasion, an attack witnessed by the victim’s elderly mother. A Harare regional court has sentenced Walter Maponga, 37, to 15 years imprisonment for the rape and assault of his 56-year-old mother-in-law in a case that has horrified a rural community. Magistrate Jessie Kufa found Maponga guilty following a trial where the prosecution presented what the court described as a clear and established case. The attack occurred on September 17, 2025, in Makoni Village, Mhondoro. According to evidence presented by prosecutor Blessed Songozo, Maponga broke into the victim's bedroom, where she was with her 94-year-old mother.
