Teenage Girl's Hand Brutally Amputated in Kaduna After Family Rejects Forced Marriage Proposal

In a horrific act of violence, a 15-year-old girl named Endurance Sabon has had her hand cut off after her family refused a forced marriage proposal from suspected Fulani herdsmen in Kaduna State. The attack has sent shockwaves through the Goska community in Kafanchan and highlights the severe threats facing rural families.

The ordeal began on Friday, December 12, while Endurance, her mother, and other relatives were working on their farm. According to a family member who spoke to SaharaReporters, a group of herdsmen approached them around 10 a.m., praising the teenager's beauty and demanding she be given to one of them in marriage. Thinking the men were joking, the family continued their work.

The situation turned deadly serious hours later. As the family waited for a motorcycle taxi to take them home around 6:30 p.m., the men, who had been lying in ambush, rushed them from the bush. In the chaos, the attackers used a torchlight to identify Endurance, seized her, and dragged her into the forest, where they inflicted a deep, devastating cut on her hand.

Victim Battling for Recovery, Suspects in Custody

Endurance was first rushed to the General Hospital in Kafanchan before being referred to a private facility for emergency care. Due to the severity of her injuries, she has now been referred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital for advanced treatment, with her family making desperate appeals for financial assistance to cover the mounting medical bills.

The family source confirmed that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, which they believe involved about nine men initially. "My mother knows them very well. Their houses are close to the farm," the source stated, calling for decisive government intervention.

The community is reeling, with residents pointing out that a brother of the victim's family was similarly attacked and found mutilated earlier this year. The family and local leaders are now urging the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to ensure the arrested perpetrators face the full weight of the law and to provide urgent support to the young victim.

This brutal attack underscores the persistent insecurity and terror linked to forced marriages and banditry plaguing many communities in Southern Kaduna.

Sheikh Gumi Alleges Foreign Powers are Financing Terrorists in Nigeria

Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has accused unnamed foreign nations of supporting terrorist groups in Nigeria, citing a sudden reversal of security gains in recent months as evidence of external interference. In a significant and provocative claim, Nigerian Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that international actors are providing backing to terrorists operating within the country. During an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Sheikh Gumi pointed to deteriorating security in areas that had shown marked improvement. He specifically highlighted the Abuja-Kaduna highway, which had become safer for travelers, and the farmlands around Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State, where farmers had cautiously returned to their fields after years of abandonment. Intelligence-led operation in Jebba uncovers healthcare professional allegedly aiding criminal networks. In a significant breakthrough, Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a licensed medical doctor for his alleged role in supporting kidnapping gangs terrorizing parts of Kwara State. The arrest followed a targeted interception in the Jebba area, based on precise intelligence regarding the movement of supplies to criminal elements. According to security officials, the doctor was caught transporting medical provisions from Sokoto State intended for kidnappers operating within Kwara. This development suggests that recent security operations have been effective, leaving some gang members wounded and in urgent need of care. “These criminal networks are becoming increasingly desperate for medical assistance following sustained engagements with security forces,” a DSS official stated.
