An off-duty Kingston police officer shot and wounded a man during a road rage confrontation in Wawayanda, New York, on Thursday afternoon, leaving the victim in critical but stable condition. The incident, which escalated after one driver brandished a knife, was captured on video by a witness .
What Happened
The incident began around 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025, on Dolsontown Road near McVeigh Road in Orange County's Town of Wawayanda . According to the New York State Police investigation, the conflict between the drivers of a 2020 Volkswagen and a 2021 Toyota pickup truck spanned about one mile before both vehicles pulled over .
Witnesses reported seeing the vehicles swerving, "cutting each other off," and driving aggressively, with the dispute possibly originating when one driver cut off the other while exiting a car wash . The situation escalated when Wallace Fisher, 31, of Middletown (the driver of the Volkswagen) exited his vehicle and approached the Toyota .
At the driver's side window, a verbal argument turned physical. Police state that Fisher brandished a knife, though witness video is not clear on when exactly he produced it . The driver of the Toyota, 33-year-old Anthony Simon, an off-duty officer with the Kingston Police Department, then discharged his personal firearm . Fisher was struck twice, in the neck and shoulder .
