"This Journey Has Reminded Me": Billionaire Philanthropist Folorunso Alakija's Prayer as N34bn Hospital Opens

Africa's richest woman, billionaire businesswoman Folorunso Alakija, has offered a powerful and personal testimony, sharing her deep gratitude as a N34 billion hospital bearing her and her husband's name was officially commissioned in Osogbo, Nigeria.

The Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility at Osun State University, represents the culmination of a vision she describes as a divine instruction. In a heartfelt message following the commissioning ceremony, Alakija reflected on the journey from a "simple act of obedience" to a landmark institution for healthcare and education.

A Heart Full of Gratitude

Alakija's statement expressed profound thanks to the key figures instrumental in realizing the project. She singled out her husband, Mr. Modupe Folarin Alakija, and their company, Famfa Oil Limited, for their foundational support.

The commissioning event, held on December 15, 2025, was graced by high-profile dignitaries, whom Alakija also acknowledged. She expressed deep appreciation to His Excellency Professor Yemi Osinbajo, former Vice President of Nigeria, for honouring the occasion by officially opening the hospital. She also thanked Osun State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke, the leadership of Osun State University led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, traditional rulers, and all project partners.

"This journey has reminded me that when God gives an instruction, He also provides the strength, the people, and the grace to fulfill it," Alakija wrote, framing the project's completion as a testament to faith and collaboration.

A Legacy of Healing and Hope

The 250-bed pentagon-shaped hospital, equipped with CT scanners, advanced labs, and four operating theaters, is designed to be far more than a medical facility. In her prayer for the institution, Alakija outlined its core mission: to serve generations, train excellent medical professionals, and become a nexus where "compassion, knowledge, and healing meet."

Her vision extends beyond national borders, with a hope that the hospital will "be a blessing to Nigeria and beyond." The facility is strategically positioned to combat Nigeria's reliance on medical tourism and address the critical "brain drain" of healthcare professionals by providing world-class training and research opportunities locally.

The project stands as one of the largest private philanthropic contributions to Nigeria's public health infrastructure, cementing Folorunso Alakija's legacy not only as a business icon but as a transformative force for national development through compassionate investment.

Sheikh Gumi Alleges Foreign Powers are Financing Terrorists in Nigeria

Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has accused unnamed foreign nations of supporting terrorist groups in Nigeria, citing a sudden reversal of security gains in recent months as evidence of external interference. In a significant and provocative claim, Nigerian Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that international actors are providing backing to terrorists operating within the country. During an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Sheikh Gumi pointed to deteriorating security in areas that had shown marked improvement. He specifically highlighted the Abuja-Kaduna highway, which had become safer for travelers, and the farmlands around Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State, where farmers had cautiously returned to their fields after years of abandonment. DSS Arrests Medical Doctor Accused of Supplying Drugs to Kwara Kidnapping Syndicate

Intelligence-led operation in Jebba uncovers healthcare professional allegedly aiding criminal networks. In a significant breakthrough, Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a licensed medical doctor for his alleged role in supporting kidnapping gangs terrorizing parts of Kwara State. The arrest followed a targeted interception in the Jebba area, based on precise intelligence regarding the movement of supplies to criminal elements. According to security officials, the doctor was caught transporting medical provisions from Sokoto State intended for kidnappers operating within Kwara. This development suggests that recent security operations have been effective, leaving some gang members wounded and in urgent need of care. “These criminal networks are becoming increasingly desperate for medical assistance following sustained engagements with security forces,” a DSS official stated.
