UNN Student Dies After Alleged Mob Beating Over Suspected Phone Theft

A student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has reportedly died after being brutally beaten by fellow students who accused him of stealing a mobile phone.

The incident occurred at the Eni Njoku male hostel on the university campus. According to a social media report by influencer Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, the victim was dragged out and assaulted by other hostel residents, sustaining severe injuries from which he later died.

Official Response Pending

As of Thursday, December 11, the management of UNN has not released an official statement regarding the incident. The acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Inya Agha Egwu, stated he was out of town and unable to provide immediate details when contacted.

However, a senior lecturer at the institution, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the tragic event. "Yes, the incident happened. It was a very big shock that such would happen in a university community. The individuals involved must be punished," the lecturer stated.

The case adds to growing concerns about mob justice and campus security in Nigerian institutions.
