In a sermon addressing Nigeria's security crisis, prominent clergyman Dr. Paul Enenche has publicly called for military personnel to come forward to be anointed with oil, claiming divine intervention can lead to victory against terrorists.
Dr. Paul Enenche, the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, has made a direct appeal to Nigeria's armed forces, offering spiritual anointing as a form of support in the fight against terrorism.
During a recent sermon, Pastor Enenche stated, "Let the military come, let's pour oil on their head," emphasizing the church's readiness to provide "spiritual firepower" to complement the nation's military efforts.
To support his call, the cleric shared a testimony involving a high-ranking military officer who he said was a Major General and former commander of the 231 Battalion in Borno State. According to Enenche, the officer, then a Lieutenant Colonel, was anointed with oil in the church. The officer reportedly applied the oil to himself and anointed his troops' weapons.
Pastor Enenche claimed this spiritual exercise led to significant operational successes, including the defeat of terrorists, the capture of enemy equipment, and the officer's personal protection from bullets during an ambush. The pastor did not publicly name the officer, stating he awaited his permission to do so.
The appeal comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with persistent insecurity, including insurgency in the northeast and widespread banditry. Pastor Enenche framed the offer as a partnership between faith and national service, presenting spiritual support as a tangible asset in the conflict.
The call highlights how religious leaders are increasingly publicly engaging with the nation's security challenges, proposing faith-based interventions alongside conventional military strategy. There has been no immediate public response from military authorities regarding the pastor's offer.
