Nigeria Police Force Reports High Compliance with Presidential Directive on VIP Escorts

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force has announced significant progress in implementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive to withdraw police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties, stating that a recent enforcement operation found full compliance.

In a statement issued on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed a "high level of compliance" with the presidential order, which aims to redeploy officers to core policing responsibilities to enhance public safety.

The assessment followed a special monitoring exercise conducted by a team from Force Headquarters in Lagos. Officers monitored key locations, including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, between 10:00 a.m. and the close of operations.

"The team reported that... no police officer was found violating the directive by providing unauthorised escort services to VIPs," the statement read. It added that no arrests were made as no infractions were recorded during the operation.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force's commitment to fully executing the presidential directive. He emphasized the police force's determination to redirect manpower toward fundamental security duties, including crime prevention and the protection of lives and property nationwide.

The Police Force assured the public that enforcement of the withdrawal policy would continue uniformly across all states. It also called for public support for the ongoing reforms, which are intended to strengthen professional and citizen-focused policing.
