Details of the Incidents
Security expert Brant Philip stated that ISWAP executed two alleged spies loyal to the Nigerian army. One was captured in his home in Dekwa, Yobe State, and another near Gubio, Borno State.
These killings bring the total number of public executions by the group in recent days to nine. Philip suggested this spike is likely a preemptive measure "to take out all the moles" ahead of a rumored joint US-Nigeria military offensive against the terrorist group.
In a separate operation in Tetiba, Yobe State, ISWAP militants raided three houses belonging to a Nigerian police officer, Officer-in-Charge Mohammed Modu. Acting on local intelligence, the terrorists set the houses ablaze and confiscated motorcycles and vehicles. No casualties were reported from this raid.
These events occur amidst a backdrop of sustained security operations and militant activity in Nigeria's northeastern states.
