Fuji Star KWAM 1's Bid for Awujale Throne Faces Lineage Dispute

Nigerian Fuji music star Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde (KWAM 1) has submitted a genealogical form to contest the throne of the Awujale of Ijebu Ode, but his claim to the required royal lineage is being disputed by key family heads, casting doubt on his eligibility.

Submission and Scheduled Review

The throne has been vacant since the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona in July. KWAM 1 submitted his lineage data form to the Fusengbuwa ruling house, which is next in line to produce the next monarch. The family has called an emergency meeting for Thursday, December 11, to review his submission.

Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, Chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, confirmed the submission. He explained that the form requires contenders to trace their ancestry back seven generations to prove membership, a step necessary before applying for an expression of interest.

Controversy Over Claimed Lineage

The musician's bid has sparked controversy because he is traditionally associated with the Fidipote ruling house but is contesting through the Jadiara unit of the Fusengbuwa house. His form reportedly traces his descent through his father to the Setejoye family unit.

However, this claim has been publicly rejected by leaders of the family he claims lineage from:

*   Otunba Akinola Odedina, Chairman of the Jadiara ruling house, stated, "I can say categorically that Wasiu has no genealogical lineage to Jadiara Royal House."
*   Alhaji O. B. Yusuf, Chairman of the Bubiade royal family, also denied any relation between KWAM 1, his father, and their family.

Background and Next Steps

The official form collection period ended on December 5, but KWAM 1 was granted a five-day extension that expired on Wednesday, December 10. The upcoming family meeting will determine the validity of his genealogical submission amidst the growing dispute.

Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has accused unnamed foreign nations of supporting terrorist groups in Nigeria, citing a sudden reversal of security gains in recent months as evidence of external interference. In a significant and provocative claim, Nigerian Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that international actors are providing backing to terrorists operating within the country. During an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Sheikh Gumi pointed to deteriorating security in areas that had shown marked improvement. He specifically highlighted the Abuja-Kaduna highway, which had become safer for travelers, and the farmlands around Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State, where farmers had cautiously returned to their fields after years of abandonment.
