Retired tennis champion Ana Ivanovic has formally filed for divorce from German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger, citing an alleged affair as the cause for the split of their nine-year marriage.
Former tennis star Ana Ivanovic has initiated divorce proceedings against her husband, retired footballer and World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to reports from German media.
The couple, who married in Venice in 2016 after meeting in 2014, had already been living separately for several months. German outlet *Bild* reports that Ivanovic, 38, filed the divorce petition at the Munich District Court in November. She has also reportedly filed for child support in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, where she resides with the couple's three young sons.
The separation was first announced by Ivanovic's representative in July, citing "irreconcilable differences." Reports in the German press have since alleged that the split was triggered by an affair involving Schweinsteiger, 41. Publications named a woman referred to as "Silva," reportedly a Bulgarian acquaintance whose children attend the same school as Schweinsteiger and Ivanovic's sons.
The pair were last seen together publicly at the Laver Cup tennis event in September 2024. Schweinsteiger, who played for Manchester United and the Chicago Fire before retiring in 2019, and Ivanovic, a former French Open champion and world No. 1, were considered one of Europe's most prominent sports power couples. Their divorce marks the end of their nine-year marriage.
