Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy has pledged to cover the funeral costs for the four children killed in a mass shooting at a birthday party in Stockton, California, citing an emotional connection to the tragic story.
International music star Burna Boy has offered to pay for the funerals of the four young victims killed in a mass shooting in Stockton, California, over the weekend.
The singer said he was moved to act after hearing details of the tragedy on the popular radio show *The Breakfast Club*. In a press statement, Burna Boy explained his decision, saying, “When I heard about the children murdered in Stockton, my heart broke... I wanted to do whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing.”
The 34-year-old artist coordinated the offer through music executive Wack 100 and media personality Jason Lee. He expressed particular sorrow for Amari Peterson, a 14-year-old student-athlete with a 3.8 GPA who was among those killed.
Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee acknowledged the gesture, stating that "Burna Boy's generosity is an example of how people around the world want to help, even when they've never met the families impacted."
The shooting occurred on the evening of Saturday, November 29, at a banquet hall where approximately 100 to 150 people were attending a child's birthday party. The attack left four young people dead and eleven others wounded. Identified victims include eight-year-old Maya Lupian and 21-year-old Susano Archuleta.
Authorities have indicated the shooting appears to have been targeted, though a motive has not been confirmed. The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, describing the investigation as "very active and ongoing."
