Renowned gospel musician, Asu Ekiye, has blamed churches in Nigeria for the poor state of gospel acts in the country. Speaking recently in a chat with 'Sunday Express', the award-winning musican, who is also a trained accountant, decried the poor support that gospel artistes get from the church. Said he: "The church in Nigeria is the greatest killer of talent. It is the greatest destroyer of young people who are gifted. That is why gospel music dies, because the church has impoverished gospel music...The church kills talent because they won't pay you, they won't patronize you."

Drawing from the inspiration of Disney World and other similar parks from around the world, hubby of super-sexy Nollywood superstar, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Captain Mathew Ekeinde, is set to launch his own theme park in Nigeria pretty soon. Already, as revealed by the handsome dude himself, the project is on-going. The Park, called Aquatic Jungle, is located in Badagry Town, occupying a land area of about 100 acres. Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, southern Nigeria, has disclosed that he incurred the wrath of President Goodluck Jonathan because he was seen to be exposing a lot of corrupt activities going on in GEJ's administration. While speaking in an exclusive interview with The NEWS magazine, Gov. Amaechi gave the impression that the President and his wife can never keep to their promises, recalling how they held several meetings with him begging him to deliver the state to Jonathan during the 2011 presidential election with the promise that they would never trouble him again, a promise they did not keep.

According to confirmed reports, Former  Chief of General Staff, Admiral Mike Okhai Akihgbe is presently lying critically ill in an American hospital. The nature of his ailment has not been verified. Mike Akhigbe was second in command toformer military ruler, General Abdusalami Abubakar, from 1998 till the termination of military government in Nigeria, in 1999. It was only reported recently that former President of PMAN, Mustafa Amego, was down with cancer. No sooner had the news reached us, than the sad news of the passing of Amego also came, while we were still trying to take in the news of his ailment... He died in the US, where he has been living for many years now... May his soul find eternal rest...

It was shock and sadness recently when a teenage motorist, Chinyere Wagbaranta, in company with her brother, Chisom, and a police corporal attached to Police Mobile Force 22, Felix Adebayo, in a Mercedes Benz Sports Utility Vehicle, drove into the compound carelessly and hit a little girl. The victim, three-years-old Ikeoluwa Olaniyi, had been playing with other children in her grandfather's compound in Ire-Akari Estate, Isolo. Amidst allegations of Financial impropriety, the embattled Nigerian Aviation Minister who accompanied President Jonathan to Israel, is set to sign to sign a Bilateral Air Service Agreement, BASA, with the State of Israel, on behalf of Nigeria. The agreement will pave way for direct flights between both territories on the principle of reciprocity by designated airlines of both countries. Before now, Nigerians traveling to Israel, including Christian pilgrims, have had to endure long-winding stop-overs in neighboring countries before being finally airlifted to the Holy Land. Meanwhile, under the terms of the agreement, Nigeria and Israel will enjoy equal rights and privileges, as against past BASAs that were heavily skewed against Nigerian airlines.

A United States Senator, Ted Cruz, on Thursday apologized for taking a jibe at Nigerians, saying he did not mean to offend Nigerians with the statement he made regarding Nigeria. Senator Cruz was speaking about technical glitches on a new US government website that have prevented Americans from buying health insurance under the Affordable Health Care Act, during which he jokingly said: “You know the Nigerian e-mail scammers? They have been a lot less active lately because they have all been hired to run the Obamacare web site.” His comments stirred outrage among Nigerians and some political commentators across the world, as they demanded an apology from the senator. The Nigerian embassy in Washington called Cruz’s remarks “unguided” and "a very expensive joke...". But a statement from the Senator's camp said, "The senator was making a joke based on the official term of a commonly utilised type of scam. He meant no offence.”

Ooops! Pop Sensation, Wizkid, was faced with a nightmare that many musci stars dread; having to perform before a near-empty hall... Following allegations of wide-spread corruption in the nation's aviation sector, and purported purchase of two bulletproof vehicles by embattled Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, there are indications that President Goodluck Jonathan will soon order relevant government agencies to investigate the Minister.   Speaking with the Punch Newspaper recerntly, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, assured the nation that President Jonathan would not shield the minister. He however reiterated that the President would not take a decision on the fate of the embattled minister based on media reports.  A nine year old Nigerian boy, Jomiloju Tunde-Oladipo, has become the country’s youngest ever Microsoft Office professional after he was officially certified by the software giant. Jomiloju came top among 21 pupils who sat for the professional examination in Lagos, and is now a Microsoft office specialist in office word 2010, scoring 769 out of 1,000 in the examination held in August.   Jomiloju had excelled in Sharing and Maintaining Documents, Formatting Content, Applying Page Layout, and Reusable Content, among other subjects.   By the feat, Jomiloju has joined the league of young Microsoft certified professionals around the world.  

 The Lagos State Government has announced it would close down the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Sunday between 7 a.m. and 12 noon. The closure, according to Kayode Opeifa, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, the closure is part of concerted efforts to deliver the first phase of the Blue Line Rail Project. He explained that:  “The contractor, Messrs China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC, will be installing pre-cast beams for the pedestrian bridge to take commuters into the rail station at Mile 2 and across the road.” “This notice serves as awareness information on the beam launch. We therefore advise motorists and other road users to use alternative routes to avoid traffic delays,” he added. The Commissioner further said that relevant government agencies are working to ensure free flow of traffic during the closure. “We appeal for caution and cooperation from all road users to obey all traffic regulations and ensure traffic flow...

Bravery, they say, is not in age or size. According to a report by Punch Newspapers, a 7 year old boy has led police to smash a Lagos kidnap syndicate that specializes in the kidnap of little children. It was reported that the lad himself had been kidnapped previously by the group. The report stated that the kidnap suspects, one Gbenga Sholaja, a university graduate, olalekan Benjamin and Samson Shomorin, were specialised in kidnapping little boys around the Lagos metropolis. The boy who had been taken hostage by the gang at the Ikotun area of Lagos, was later relased after his parents paid the ransom. But unfortunately for the kidnappers, the boy had memorised the house address where he was kept, and he led police officers to the same house where Benjamin was arrested. It was drama of sort, when the wife of a 53 old man, Yusuf Alabi, who was being prosecuted for allegedly having canal knowlede of their two biological daughters, chose to intervene on his behalf. In her statement, she prayed the court not to prosecute her husband for what he did, as it was a family matter and should be treated as such. Mr. Alabi admitted guilt of the said offense, he explained that he did it to prevent them from premature death. No fewer than 20 people were killed when Islamist group Boko Haram attacked a town in northeast Nigeria, triggering clashes with troops stationed there, the military said on Sunday. Reuters reported that a spokesman for Nigerian forces in northeastern Borno State, which lies at the heart of a four-year-old Islamist insurgency, said the Islamists crept into the town of Damboa in the early hours of Saturday. They killed five worshippers at a mosque as they said their morning prayers, he said. “While they were unleashing their mayhem, troops … engaged the terrorists, killing 15 in the process while others fled,” the military spokesman, Captain Aliyu Danja, said in a statement obtained by Reuters .

  Following last week's unfortunate plane crash, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authorities, NCAA, has forthwith suspend the operations of Associated Airlines, pending completion of investigations to verify the reason for the unfortunate crash that claimed several lives. According to NCAA Director-General, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu: “Associated Airlines operations have been suspended by the NCAA. Let me say for the purpose of clarity, I said their operations, I mean all their operations of Associated Airline have been suspended by the NCAA. I did not say any certification was cancelled but all operations.”

There has been reports that at least two people may have died following injuries that received at a Peace and Unity rally in Kaduna earlier today. The rally, which many say is a Pro-Jonathan gathering, thus ended abruptly with the victims rushed to the hospital. The rally took an ugly turn when participants began to use dangerous weapons on one another, witnesses said. The rally, reportedly bankrolled by a governor from the South-south geopolitical zone,  was organized under the auspices of the Northern Youth Forum, which has members in the 19 northern states. The participants, those familiar with the organisation of the rally said, were bused to Kaduna from all the 19 northern states and paid N3000 each. It is believed that a large number of the youth who attended the rally had no idea that it was aimed at promoting and selling Jonathan's 2015 ambition to the people. The nation was spared another agony when a Saudi-bound Kabo Airline plane carrying 400 passengers from Kano made an emergency landing at the Sir Abubakar III International Airport in Sokoto early today Saturday October 5th. The Boeing 747 jumbo jet which left Kano on Friday en route to Saudi Arabia had to divert to Sokoto after several of its tyres exploded immediately after it took off the Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano. All the passengers aboard the airline have been evacuated from the plane and lodged in a hotel in the ancient city. A close one there... whew!
